What to do:
1. Colour/decorate and cut out the template

3. Sticky tape some string to the centre, then add a tail to the bottom
4. Take your kite outside for it to fly!

STEM FOCUS
Building a kite is a perfect STEM activity. It requires a keen engineer to use their construction skills to make the kite and then the scientist is needed when outside flying the kite! Through playful activities children can discover how things work. Wind is needed to fly a kite and lift it off the ground. You could also experiment with wind pinwheels, or windsocks to talk about wind speed and direction with your child. http://www.sciencekids.co.nz/projects/windvane.html

Songs to sing:
Baa, Baa, Black Sheep, The Wheels on the Bus, and Row, Row, Row Your Boat.

Key message: Children learn through being engaged and doing.
