Further information

Research shows that in their first few months babies can only see clearly for a short distance. Babies respond enthusiastically to high contrast geometric shapes, typically black and white images and bold red images. Introducing babies to books or images like this mobile with high contrast black and white patterns, shapes and objects allows them to focus more easily on the images in front of them.

Babies also need lots of one-on-one interactions with caring adults to help support healthy brain development. Sharing stories and singing songs are two perfect activities you can share with your baby. Sing songs in the car, at the park, in the bath, during nappy change or at bedtime. Babies and young children respond well to routine and by singing songs over and over it won’t be long before they are joining in!

Song:

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, Open Shut Them, B-I-N-G-O.

Key message The First Five Years Matter and Last a Lifetime.
