It's Story Time Monthly Selection Program
The most frequently asked questions from parents and carers are what to read, how do we select the right story for the right age and what is a good picture book for a toddler that won't sit for more than 5 seconds? We want it to be simple and fun, so each and every month we select quality picture books for babies, toddlers and preschoolers as part of our It's Story Time program.
Each month, The Little Big Book Club's Program Manager, with the help of an Advisory Group select three picture books. The aim is to help parents and carers feel secure in selecting and reading great stories with their child/ren.
To add to the fun of our monthly stories we produce 3 activities and 3 learning sheets to go with the 3 picture books, this way the early childhood sector, parent/carer and child can continue to enjoy the story outside of the picture book.
How it works
Throughout the year publishers submit titles for consideration.
Prior to the start of the year monthly themes are decided through discussions with the Early Childhood sector, parents wishes and special events. The themes for 2011 have included tradition, transport, mums & dads, feel good stories, Graeme Base, food glorious food, books to interact with and adventure. Each month the three books (or series of books) are selected based on the quality of the book, age appropriateness and availability for: 0 – 2 years (babies), 2 & 3 years (toddlers) and 4 & 5 years (preschoolers).
