The Vegemite Little Aussie Reader
Since September, 2007 over 400,000 Vegemite Little Aussie Reader Scrapbooks have been distributed free to parents and caregivers of children aged between birth and 5 years.

This interactive resource helps and encourage parents to make time to read aloud to children from infancy. Designed in consultation with early childhood specialists and parents, the Vegemite Little Aussie Reader Scrapbooks contain:

  • Tips for parents on reading aloud to their children
  • Age appropriate booklists to help parents select appropriate books
  • Sections to record family memories and words
  • Actions to nursery rhymes, clapping and action songs

Currently, we are out of stock of the hard copy versions but modified versions of the scrapbooks are available as free downloads from the section 'Scrapbooks and stickers' section of this site.

Launched on Wednesday 19 September, 2007 The Vegemite Little Aussie Reader is a partnership between Vegemite and The Little Big Book Club. This project has also been assisted by The Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its funding and arts advisory body.

The Vegemite Little Aussie Reader has been designed to provide resources for parents, child care centres, public libraries and anyone interested in the area of early childhood language and literacy development.

The initiative provides a comprehensive resource file to all public libraries and accredited long day care centres across Australia and contains information sheets covering topics such as language development, reading aloud, suggested activities based on books and tips on choosing age appropriate books. On-going additions to the resource file will be available online each month.

All of the information contained in this file is available as free downloads under the 'Information sheets' section of this site.
