Cat, is the first manuscript chosen for the inaugural Picture Book to Performance project.

Picture Book to Performance is a unique partnership between Windmill Performing Arts, Australia’s flagship performing arts company for children and family audiences, and The Advertiser Little Big Book Club in S.A. and The Courier Mail Little Big Book Club in Qld. The project aims to promote and develop literacy - incorporating reading, multi-media and performance literacy – in the first five years of a child’s life.

Cat by Mike Dumbleton and illustrated by Craig Smith was selected from over 60 submissions. The manuscript has been published as a picture book by Working Title Press and simultaneously developed as a theatrical production by Windmill and an e-book and accompanying online games and resources by The Advertiser Little Big Book Club and The Courier Mail Little Big Book Club.

The picture book is now available in bookstores, libraries and Kmart.

The theatrical production by Windmill Performing Arts premiered at the The State Library of South Australia on 3 July 2007 and has since had sell out season in Brisbane and Canberra. The show is booked for the Sydney Opera House in 2008.
