Read it again....
When spoken by a small child, these words bring great joy to a children's author but perhaps not always to a parent.
If read to regularly, most children will connect with one particular book and want it read over and over again. Children get a great sense of satisfaction out of knowing what comes next and predicting what the characters will do or say. They'll also soon catch parents out when they try to skip a page or two to fast track the bedtime ritual.
To introduce new words into your young child's vocabulary and to bring new ideas, experiences and fun, new books should be introduced on a regular basis while still retaining their favourites.
The Little Big Book Club has compiled a list of books that can be found in most public libraries and book stores. As you will see from the overlap in the older age groups, books such as Where's the Green Sheep? by Mem Fox remain very popular from toddlers through to year two students.
These lists are offered as a guide only. Children develop at their own pace. If you find that the child becomes distracted or tired, stop reading and try again another time or choose a different book.
