About us
The Big Book Club Inc. is a not for profit arts organisation committed to the promotion of reading, literature and Australian authors and illustrators.
The Big Book Club Inc. has two major projects:
- The Big Book Club (TBBC) for adults
- The Little Big Book Club (LBBC) for parents of children aged between birth and 5 years
The Big Book Club Inc. links with other major organisations to connect readers no matter their age or where they live.
National programs such as, Picture Book to Performance, The Vegemite Little Aussie Reader (Scrapbooks & It's a b c Time) and It's Rhyme Time book and DVD resource have all been developed and are being used nationally via a number of initiatives including Better Beginnings in WA, Young Readers Program in Victoria and Flying Start through Qld Premier's dept.
The program's primary aim is to encourage parents and cares to share stories with their children from an early age. By parents/carers reading aloud to their children they are also playing a vital role in their child’s development of emergent literacy skills – skills essential in learning to read and write.

- Sharing books, rhymes, songs and conversation regularly with young children are some of the most important activities that you can undertake to develop a child’s ability to read, write and acquire strong language skills.
- The human brain is most open to environmental influences in the first few years of life with 75% of brain development occurring between birth and the age of three.
The Little Big Book Club offers a range of support materials and guidance for parents and caregivers of young children and there are many great resources available through this website that you can access for free and use at home, in the library or at childcare.
The Little Big Book Club in partnership with public libraries will continue to support and encourage parents up until their children reach school age at which time the program encourages participation in individual state & territory Premiers' Reading Challenges.
Monthly Selections
Each month, The Little Big Book Club selection committee chooses a book for each age group birth – 2 years , 2&3 years and 4&5 years.
These books are featured in media outlets, public libraries and bookstores The aim is to further assist adults in choosing age appropriate, tried and loved books for young children. Printable activity sheets are also available to download and are a great way to extend the experience of reading the featured monthly selections.
The Little Big Book Club is advised by a range of specialists in the early childhood sector and parents as to what resources are required to support parents and caregivers. Corporate partners and local, State and Federal Government support is vital in funding the development and distribution of these resources.
