Toddlers & Books...Turning Frustration Into Fun!

 |  tags:

Toddlerhood can be a time of wonder and delight as your little baby starts to turn into a little person. They are beginning to walk, talk and develop personalities of their own.

Toddlers say the funniest things and give the best cuddles. But as we all know, toddlers can also be demanding, stubborn and unreasonable as they begin to explore and understand the world around them. This can sometimes make reading with toddlers an interesting experience!

Why read with toddlers?

  • A toddler’s vocabulary has the ability to develop at an amazing rate. By reading to them you are introducing a wide range of new words in meaningful contexts.
  • They learn how books and stories work, which will help them later on when it is time to learn to read.
  • When you are reading with a child you are giving them your full attention. You can’t read a story while you are on the phone or computer, watching TV or talking to someone else. It is one-on-one undivided attention which they love.
  • We’ve all had ‘one of those days’ with a toddler. If you have spent most of the day losing battles with your little one and there are still 10 things on your to do list, put it all aside and snuggle up together with a book. The quiet five minutes you spend together could actually turn your day around.Story time can be one of the most rewarding moments you can spend with a child and one that both of you will treasure for years to come.
