Beautiful books for babies

 |  tags:

Sturdy board books with bright pictures and simple text are great for babies. However, it is equally as important to read books to babies that are well written, have an engaging story and that the parents love too. Our current top five beautiful books to read to babies are:

  • Your Are My Special Baby by Carol Chataway and Danny Snell
  • Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes by Mem Fox and Helen Oxenbury
  • Each Peach Pear Plum by Jane and Allan Ahlberg
  • My Mum’s the Best by Rosie Smith and Bruce Whatley (one of the best things about reading to babies is that you can change the words and they won’t know! This book can become “My Dad’s the Best” or “My Gran’s the Best” and they will love it just the same!
  • Someday by Alison McGhee and Peter H Reynolds

Board books for babies are a very good tweets123 way to introduce your child to the world of reading. It is important to communicate with your infant in his or her early months of growth.

I also second:The Very Hungry Catepillar Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little ToesDear Zoo

to this list I would also add:

Belly Button Book by Sanda BoyntonThe Baby Catalogue by Allen AhlbergTime for Bed by Mem FoxLittle Fish by Guido van Genechten

My 6 month old baby loves 'Dear Zoo' by Rod Campbell. It is a great board book with lots of different sized flaps to open and bright pictures of animals.

I think you should take them to a specialist, I mean old books gain in value but only if they are preserved right. I have a friend, he and his wife sell textbooks and have done so for thirty years , and they get a lot of old books to clean or restore, and it is a costly and time consuming process but it really counts.

I love "HUG". So simple, but something even the youngest can "read" and understand. Another my kids LOVED was "How Kind" by Mary Murphy. Simple, sweet....lovely.  Both survived 3 kids trying to eat them as well!

my boys love the "that's not my" series, they love the repetition and rhythm, and the different textures to run their little fingers across. Of course like all other books it's all about how you read to your children, if you put the fun into your reading then your children will love the books too. i also like reading the bad tempered ladybird to my four year old, he loves it when i put on the angry, but scared also voice on!

Shhh! Little Mouse by Pamela Allen. My babie have loved this book. You can use a really interesting voice, sometimes quiet, sometimes fast and I always tickled their legs when the little mouse was running. Also not many words so it can be finished before they get fussy.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a great book to read to babies. It lends itself to be read with an expressive voice and babies find the repetition in the text soothing. I am also sure most of us would know it off by heart so while you are reading you can focus on your baby not just the book!

We have The Very Hungry Caterpillar finger pupper book which my 4 month old used to love... It's still one of her favourite's (now 10 months). Dear Zoo is also a fun board book with repitition.

Baby Talk by Judy Hindley is one of our favourites due to the simple words and beautiful large illustrations.
